Did Peter know these folks? Not sure. All I can say is that we'd never met except via the email invitation.
I think Peter has discovered that such invitations are more about the conversation and the people than being judged for your hosting abilities. That's not to take anything away from his considerable hosting talents, just that he understands the value of getting people together in this day of technical isolation.
The world needs more Peter Kuperman's. Go for it! Plan an event of your own.

I loved the description of the meal you all had together. Sounds absolutely delicious. I wish I could have been there. But I must say that it is a bit daunting to think of inviting my local wine merchant or favorite chef to a dinner--unless I already know them as friends. Surely Peter already knew these folks.

Very good read. You captured the essence of so many of my favorite evenings in San Francisco- cooking with friends and pouring countless bottles of wine which never quite taste as good the next go-round without the laughter of friends. Well, maybe some still taste great, but you get the point.
Thanks for the useful pointers wrapped in your always witty dialouge. I enjoy reading your blog and look forward to future posts.

I love this article! It seems that the powers that be here (Las Vegas) are doing their level best to slide back into wine prohibition with some of the silly rules that they invent regarding BYOB, corkage fees, etc. Thanks for showing us that even in California, sanity can prevail!
