I kid thee not.  Today is Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.  Whether this is an online spoof (and if so, it’s well organized) or an actual appreciation day voted on by our hard-working representatives, I’m not sure.  Either way, one wonders why such a common, 50 year-old product deserves its own day.  The industry insists this day is recognized "around the world".  Bet you’ve never heard of it before now though, unless you’re a stockholder.

Although it has brought hours of obnoxious fun to several generations, and having spawned more than one weird product idea (see bubble wrap bikini, bubble wrap pants, and some hilarious competitions to come up with product extensions), why in the world would our nation take pause to honor such a thing? 

And why in the world would a wine merchant’s blog spend any time on such a thing?  As usual, in my warped mind, all roads lead to wine, eventually.  You see, bubble wrap has saved many a shipped bottle from meeting an untimely demise.  And when I’m shipping wines like this one, below, it’s comforting to know it will be shipped in good, protective covering.  Besides, there is no Styrofoam appreciation day.
