Wine investments outperform stock indexes?!

I recently received this “info graphic” from the folks at Gourmet Gift Baskets.  It describes how top quality wines (and other collectibles) set record-high investment returns, far out-performing all of the major stock indexes over the past decade.

I tend to view all information displayed in “pretty pictures” with great skepticism.  But this information does raise an interesting idea – if the returns are even half as great on an overall wine portfolio, why not sell half of every case you buy and use the proceeds to buy more wine?   You could easily drink the world’s greatest wine for free (though admittedly, it would take your portfolio a decade to appreciate).  Ohh, if I were only younger!
