Q: Why should I buy wine from you? Why would I join one of your wine clubs? Who the hell are YOU to recommend wines to ME?!
A: Good questions. At the heart of it all, I'm just a wine lover like you, who earned his professional stripes through hard work and lots of experience. I discovered great wine in the early 80's, then began taking every wine and cooking class I could find, and started an ever-expanding library of wine books and reference materials. New wines were purchased as money allowed, at first for immediate drinking, then for collecting.
Soon my friends were asking for wine recommendations…and then for food pairings and recipes... then for advice on their cellars. So I began teaching wine classes and writing informal newsletters and working at various wine industry jobs. Weekends and vacations were spent immersed in various wine cultures, helping with harvests and spring trimmings and in cellars and tasting rooms.
Finally, in 2002, I left a 20-year marketing career and turned my passion into a business. At first, I helped wineries increase revenues through more effective marketing and online efficiencies. Now I spend my days tasting thousands of wines each year – all from boutique producers – and select the best for my customers. My portfolio is small, well-picked, and ever-evolving.
In essence, I'm doing what I've always done – sharing great wines with people just like you, my online customers and wine club members. Are my customers happy? My annual retention rates are impressive – well over 95% (until the recession hit).
